Senate Appointments made by Democratic Governors vs Republican Governors.

Excluding WY Democratic Governor Dave Freudenthal appointment of Republican John Barrasso for the late Republican US Senator Criag Thomas's VACANT US Senate Seat in June 2007. Barrasso won the 2008 WY US Senate Race to complete remaining years of Thomas's Senate Term which expires in November 2012.

US Senate appointments made by Democratic Governors were starting from the most recent.

CO- Governor Bill Ritter will appoint Denver Public Schools CEO Michael Bennett(D) to Ken Salazars(D)soon to be VACANT US Senate Seat. Running in 2010 for a full term.

NY- Governor David Paterson will appoint Former First Daughter and Political Activist and Legal Scholar Caroline Kennedy to Hillary Clinton's (D) soon to be VACANT US Senate Seat. Running for in 2010 to complete the remaining years of Senator Hillary Clinton's Senate term which expires in November 2012.

IL- Governor Rod Blagojevich has appointed Former IL Comptroller and Attorney General Roland Burris to President Elect Barack Obama's(D) VACANT US Senate Seat. Caretaker appointment- IL 2010 US Senate Race is wide open.

DE- Governor Ruth Minner has appointed former Senate Chief of Staff Ted Kaufman to Vice President Elect Joe Biden's (D) soon to be VACANT US Senate Seat. Caretaker appointment- Biden's son DE AG Beau is the front runner for the DE 2010 US Senate Race to complete the remaining years of the Senior Biden's Senate Term which expires in November 2014.

NJ- Governor Jon Corzine appointed US Representative Bob Menendez for his old US Senate Seat. Menendez won the 2006 NJ US Senate Race for a full term.

MO- Then Governor Roger Wilson appointed former First Lady Jean Carnahan for the VACANT US Senate seat- her late husband ex Governor Mel Carnahan won. Jean Carnahan lost the 2002 Special Election to complete the remaining years of Mel Carnahan's US Senate Term which expired in November 2006.

GA- Then Governor Roy Barnes appointed former Governor Zell Miller to the late Republican US Senator Paul Coverdell's VACANT US Seat. Miller won the 2000 GA US Senate Race to complete the remaining years of Coverdell's Senate term which expired in November 2004. Miller retired in 2004 and joined the dark side.

TX- Then Governor Ann Richards appointed former US Congressman Bob Kruegar to Lloyd Bentsen's VACANT US Senate Seat. Kruegar lost in the 1993 Special Election to complete the remaining year of Bentsen's Senate Term which expired in November 1994.

TN- Then Governor Ned McWhether appointed his former Lieutenant Harlan Matthews to Al Gore's VACANT US Senate Seat. Matthews was a caretaker. Fred Thompson(R) won the 1994 TN US Senate Race to complete the remain years of AL GOre's Senate Term which expired in November 1996.

ND- Then Governor Geore Sinner appointed Joyce Burdick to her late Husband Quentin Burdick's vacant US Senate Seat. Burdick was a caretaker. Retiring Democratic US Senator won the 1992 ND US Senate Race to complete the remaining years of Burdick's Senate Term which expired in November 1994.

PA- Then Governor Bob Casey appointed Harris Wofford to the late Republican US Senator John Heinz' vacant US Senate Seat. Wofford won the 1991 Special Election to complete the remaining years of Heinz Senate Term which expired in November 1994.

HI- Then Governor John Waihee appointed US Representative Daniel Akaka to late US Senator Spark Matsunaga's vacant US Senate Seat. Akaka won the 1990 HI US Senate Race to complete the remaining years of Matsunaga's Senate term which expired in November 1994.

MS- Governor Haley Barbour appointed US Representative Roger Wicker for Trent Lott's VACANT US Senate Seat. Wicker won the 2008 MS US Senate Race to complete the remaining years of Lott's Senate Term which expires in November 2012.

AK- Governor Frank Murkowski appointed his daughter Lisa Murkowski for his VACANT US Senate Seat. Murkowski won the 2004 AK US Senate Race for a full first term.

RI- Governor Lincoln Almond appointed Lincoln Chaffee to his late father John Chaffee's VACANT US Senate Seat. Lincoln Chaffee won the 2000 RI US Senate Race for a full first term.

KS- Governor Bill Graves appointed Lt Governor Sheila Frahm to Bob Dole's VACANT US Senate Seat. Frahm lost the Republican primary to Sam Brownback who won the 1996 KS US Senate Race to complete the remaining years of Dole's Senate Term which expired in November 1998.

CA- Governor Pete Wilson appointed John Seymour to his VACANT US Seat. Seymour lost the 1992 CA US Senate Race to Diane Feinstien to complete the remaing years of Wilson's Senate term which expired in November 1994.

IN- Governor Bob Orr appointed US Representative Dan Coats to Dan Quayle's VACANT US Senate Seat. Coats won the 1990 IN US Senate Race to complete the remaining years of Quayles Senate Term which expired in November 1992.
